CONFIDENCE BUILDER (PISTOL)

New gun owners seeking familiarity and comfort, as well as those wanting to try something different and learn a new skill, will find this course to be the perfect foundation.

 

 

HANDGUN 102

Once students have received foundational handgun training and know how to safely handle a handgun, it’s time to learn how to shoot. 

​

Utilizing the basic principle of handgun training, this course takes students through the efficient and safe use of a handgun. Working from the holster, performing reloads, clearing stoppages, and correctly manipulating a trigger to maximize accuracy are all thoroughly taught in a relaxed, hands-on environment.

 

Prerequisite 

 

This course is a foundational handgun training series. We strongly recommend Confidents Builder or equivalent before you attend Handgun 102. The student MUST know and be able to demonstrate how to safely load, fire, and unload a handgun.

Students failing to meet and maintain our safety requirements and/or who cannot meet and immediately demonstrate the minimum skills required for the specific class may be removed from training. Please ensure you have read through the class description and fully understand our prerequisites before registering.

 

Equipment List 

 

  • Quality functional semi-automatic pistol – or revolvers.            

  • 2 magazines

  • Magazine pouch

  • Dominant side, hip-mounted holster or dominant side, belt-mounted holster

  • Please wear long pants with pockets and belt loops, a sturdy 1.5" belt, closed toe shoes (no flip flops or sandals), and a crew neck (T-shirt) or button-up shirt (no low-cut neckline)

  • Optional, loading device

  • Hearing protection

  • Eye protection, 

  • Ammo Estimated round count: 250 rounds

 

HANDGUN 103 

This intensive one-day class builds upon and refines the skill sets previously established in Handgun 102 while also introducing shooters to new drills, cutting edge concepts, and core shooting principles.

 

This class is designed to take your skills to the next level. Students will discuss and learn the fundamentals of moving then shooting, receive in depth training on malfunctions and how to clear them, learn different reloading techniques, discuss different sight picture options and how they relate to speed and distance, learn one handed shooting techniques and get comprehensive training in foundational handgun marksmanship.

 

Prerequisite 

 

 We strongly recommend  Handgun 102 or equivalent before you attend Handgun 103. The student MUST know and be able to demonstrate how to safely load, fire, and unload a handgun as well as have demonstrated competence in working from a holster and performing reloads. This course will meet at the range, as there is no classroom instruction.

Students failing to meet and maintain our safety requirements and/or who cannot meet and immediately demonstrate the minimum skills required for the specific class may be removed from training. Please ensure you have read through the class description and fully understand our prerequisites before registering.

  • Quality functional semi-automatic pistol – ​

  • 3 magazines minimum or revolvers

  • Optional, loading devices

  • Dominant side, hip-mounted holster or dominant side, belt-mounted holster

  • Magazine pouch(es)

  • Sturdy belt at least 1.5” wide

  • Footwear suitable for rapid movement and turning

  • Clothing suitable for training in any weather, pants must have belt loops

  • Wraparound eyewear, polycarbonate lenses or non-shattering prescription glasses

  • Earmuffs and earplugs

  • Ammo Estimated round count: 350 rounds pistol

KILL THE STEEL 

This is a fun, fast-paced, 1-day pistol course designed to put the student through  up to 50 different drills using static and knock down steel plates. Students will establish base line performance times on a variety of drills and learn to balance speed with accuracy.

Every drill in this course will involve one or all of the following: static multiple target engagements, move-stop and shoot, shooting on the move, multiple target engagement on the move, and running to positions. The drills are designed to challenge the individual shooter to improve their performance based upon their individual skill set.

 

Prerequisite 

 

This course is designed for intermediate and above students. This course  will have bursts of energetic activity throughout. Students will be required to rapidly move between shooting stances and shooting positions on multiple targets. Drills will incorporate moving and running to positions at distances up to 20 yards.

Students failing to meet and maintain our safety requirements and/or who cannot meet and immediately demonstrate the minimum skills required for the specific class may be removed from training. Please ensure you have read through the class description and fully understand our prerequisites before registering.

  • Handgun, major caliber 9MM, 357 SIG, 40 S&W, 45 ACP

  • Dominant side, hip-mounted holster or dominant side, belt-mounted holster

  • 3 magazines

  • Sturdy belt at least 1.5” wide

  • Footwear suitable for rapid movement and turning

  • Clothing suitable for training in any weather

  • Hydration system

  • Wraparound eyewear, polycarbonate lenses or non-shattering prescription glasses

 

AMMO

    • Estimated round count: As many rounds as you choose to expend

    • Lead core ammunition to be used on steel only

    • No green/brown tip, armor piercing, or surrogate rounds to be used on steel at any time

    • Recommend electronic hearing protection or earmuffs and earplugs

NRA BASIC PISTOL

The course goal is to teach the basic knowledge, skills and attitude for owning and operating a pistol safely.

 

You should expect both classroom and range time, learning to shoot revolvers and semi-automatic pistols. You will learn NRS's rules for safe gun handling; pistol parts and operation; ammunition, shooting fundamentals; range rules; shooting from the bench rest position and two handed standing position. To earn a NRA certificate, you should be able to consistently shoot a five-shot groups within a four-inch circle from 10-15 feet prior to earning a certificate. Students will receive the NRA Guide: Basics of pistol Shooting handbook, take a Basics of Pistol examination and receive a course completion certificate.
